Entrepreneurial Coaching

Most Successful Leaders Did Not Arrive There Alone. Need a Mentor/Coach?

Most successful leaders did not arrive there alone. Need a Mentor/Coach?

Stepping into the world of entrepreneurship can be a lonely place without someone guiding you.

Knowing the right steps in starting a business can be confusing and overwhelming without someone teaching you.

Most successful leaders have a mentor/coach that has helped them get to where they are.

What about you? Have you thought about hiring a mentor/coach to be on your team?

And what is the difference between the two?

Wikipedia says,

“Mentorship is a relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps to guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person.

Coaching is a form of development in which a person called a coach supports a learner or client in achieving a specific personal or professional goal by providing training and guidance.”

Some mentors/coaches have traveled the road of entrepreneurship BEFORE YOU. They can be of incredible assistance and offer a plethora of knowledge when starting and growing your business.

The concept of mentoring/coaching is very similar to listening to the words of wisdom from your grandparents and learning life lessons from them. Your grandparents teach you about life as they know it; how they conquered difficult circumstances, and how they celebrated successes.

Similarly, entrepreneurs can learn from their mentors/coaches as they provide business guidance, support, and teaching tools to apply to our businesses.

Qualities of a Coach or MentorA Listening Ear

A good, seasoned coach listens to your business concepts and asks pointed, thought-provoking questions. Your coach should address your desires for the business, as the founder, and not that of others. The primary intent of the coach is to point you toward your goals so you can reach them successfully. Powerful questions will be asked by your coach to gain clarity around the “Why” of starting your business. Revealed details around the “Why” is necessary for developing the Vision and Mission of your business.

Your coach may initially help you develop a more detailed business vision using tools like vision boards, business model canvas, business plans and other valuable resources.

These are all tools to broaden the Vision of your business and bring clarity to YOU and others!

Qualities of a Coach or Mentor

A Helping Hand

A good quality to look for when hiring a coach is hands-on experience in entrepreneurship, meaning one who has started, grown, and operated their own business in the past and understands the challenges and processes personally. In other words, they have been there and done it! It is an added bonus, but not necessary,  if the coach has certifications or degrees to add to their credentials.

To hire a coach with knowledge in your specific market, consider one who has experience operating business within your industry.

The right coach will have the desire to shorten the learning curve for you, so your business can be up and running in no time!

When I sold my first business I immediately knew that I wanted to start another one. Oh Yeah! Once an entrepreneur, always an entrepreneur!

I hired a coach to help me determine what business that would be. I realized my passion was teaching others how to start, operate and grow their business. I had the skill set including 25 years of hands-on experience, an Accounting degree, and a drive to help others achieve success. Venture Coaching launched, and I began coaching and teaching new and existing entrepreneurs in startups and growth, as well as individuals in career transitions.

Who better to learn from than a coach who has entrepreneurial experience and has walked the path before you! I am available to teach and help you in your journey!

Qualities of a Coach or MentorA Strategic Mind

For a coach to direct you, they must know all the details about your business including your vision, mission, goals, services,  and customer needs. In addition, your skills, talents, and other experiences should be part of the discussion. What you add to the business, as the business founder, will help in branding your business and finding its uniqueness.

Polishing up on the clarity of your business is crucial to you and your team too!  Without a clear vision, there is no sense of direction. Think about driving on a foggy night. Driving can be scary if you don’t know where you’re going. Also, impaired vision can confuse you. Once your direction is known and your view is clear, you successfully reach your destination.

A coach will accumulate a lot of information and assist you in developing a strategic, actionable, step-by-step plan towards reaching your goals. Because of the coach’s experience and knowledge in operating a business, this plan will be an organized, to-do list given to the client after each session. A good coach will be accessible to the client when they face challenges or obstacles. Once you have hired your coach, pick their brain, learn all you can from them and their experiences.

Qualities of a Coach or MentorA Focused Eye

Because of the levels of confusion and overwhelm, that arises in business start-ups and growth, coaches have the experience to keep their clients focused on the given task. A good coach will provide guidance and procedures that alleviate the propensity to wander off in too many directions. The coach’s business experience gives them the eye to see what is working and what is not in your day to day business operations. A good coach understands the importance of staying focused on the future goals.

Qualities of a Coach or MentorAn Encourager & Supporter

Discouragement can set in when business operations do not go as we planned. And business will NOT always go as you expect!

A good coach will believe in your ability to succeed as an entrepreneur. They will provide support through encouraging words and the motivation to look forward, not backward. Your coach will brainstorm and analyze systems that are succeeding and failing within your operation.

At Venture Coaching, we are our client’s BIGGEST FAN! A good coach will also be your cheerleader!

Qualities of a Coach or MentorA Relationship

Developing an on-going, reliable, working relationship with your coach will be enjoyable!

The right coach will always have your best interests at heart. Your working sessions should motivate and encourage you to move forward in your business. Developing a special bond can be very rewarding for the client and the coach.

Beyond the client/coach professional relationship may be a friendship that develops on a personal level. As you get to know one another better, conversations about  life,  hobbies, family,  and circumstances, may arise.
